What is the 2 and 3rd language policy of the school ?
The Tamil Nadu Tamil Learning Act of 2006 mandates the teaching of Tamil as a compulsory subject in all schools across the state for students from standards I to X. This legislation was introduced to ensure that all students, irrespective of the board their school is affiliated with, learn Tamil.
The implementation of this Act was planned in a phased manner, starting from the academic year 2006-2007 for standard I, and progressively extending to higher standards in subsequent years. By the academic year 2015-2016, the requirement to teach Tamil was extended to all classes up to standard X.
In May 2023, the Tamil Nadu government reiterated the importance of this policy by issuing a circular to all private schools affiliated with various boards. The circular emphasized that Tamil must be taught as an additional compulsory language in these schools from classes I to X. For students in classes IX and X who had not opted for Tamil as part of their board exam requirements, schools were instructed to introduce Tamil as an additional compulsory language. The syllabus and examination patterns for this subject are to be determined by the Director of Private Schools, and the final examination for class X will be conducted by the Director of Government Examinations, Tamil Nadu, with a separate certificate issued for the same.
This policy underscores the state’s commitment to preserving and promoting the Tamil language by integrating it into the educational curriculum for all students.
