Pongal Celebrations at Shrine Vailankanni Senior Secondary School is among the biggest celebrations at our school. This year also was no exception. The entire SVSSS campus wore a festive look. The day started with watching the traditional Pongal Making competition at our school ground inaugurated by our Chairperson & Correspondent Mrs.B.K.K.Pillai. This was followed by paying respect to the bull by our Principal Mrs.Manasa T Pillai and the children enjoying a bullock cart ride around the school ground.
The Children played traditional tamil games like palanguzhi, Snake and ladder with thaya Kattai and Pandi. To remember our culture the children learnt to tie flowers. The children where enthralled by the potter’s wheels and tried their hand at it. The campus also had fun foods like cholam, sugarcane juice among other eatables.
Kili Joshiyam was another fun activity for parents and adults. The children also competed in drawing kolams and making kites.
The day concluded with traditional Tappatam and Oyilattam. Our teachers joined the traditional dance and were cheered on by the children. To top it all, Uri Adi concluded the day filled with fun, bonhomie and respect for one’s roots.
